Decent Mexican food. Although we got the food to go the interior looked inviting. The chairs were all brightly painted. We had the chili verde and enchilada suiza both were tasty. We're already planning our next visit, but dine in this time. Worth a visit.

Amazing food. The burritos are fork and knife burritos with sauce, cheese, and toppings on top of it. So flavorful. The enchiladas are great. Try the enchiladas divorcadas. The service was good. Friendly, attentive. Faster than most mexican restaurants, which if you know anything about dining out, slow service at a mexican restaurant should be expected. And, they have pitchers of margaritas available, but not on the menu. They were delicious. It is a fun colorful atmoshphere. I have recommended it, and those people have loved it and actually been there many more times than me.

Love love love! Obsessed with their arroz con pollo! Burritos are great! We like to have two meats there and it's fabulous! I have introduced a lot of people to this restaurant and they too love it. The piña coladas are delicious and definitely give you a buzz :)

The food was generic and seemed out of a can/frozen. The atmosphere was a typical suburban mexican restaurant so nothing out of the ordinary here. Not looking to go back again.

Disappointed tonight. Food was luke warm when served and the chicken fajitas were mostly onion. Other people we were with had same opinion. If this was the first visit to this restaurant it would have been my last, but I know they can do better.

Decent Mexican food that is vegetarian friendly. We are regulars here and always get good service. Veggie fajitas and margheritas are my fav!

Great Mexican food. This has become a regular stop for our office lunch time crew. Always busy but that is a good sign. Lunch specials offer many choices. I have taken a liking to their pork tamales.

I've been to Mi Mexico several times, (begrudgingly after the first trip, usually for work functions) and sadly, each visit has been increasingly more disappointing than the last. An Americanized menu is certainly not atypical of a suburban "Mexican" restaurant, so while I wouldn't peg it as authentic, it's somewhat de rigueur for the area. Forgivable. The poor-quality ingredients, slapdash presentation, inefficient service, and the downright inconvenienced attitude of the owners, however, is not. PROS: Ample parking in the rear lot. Friendly bartenders and servers. CONS: Mass quantities of unpalatable, overcooked, watered-down, and sloppily-plated food. The slightest special request proves troublesome and is nearly always ignored by the kitchen (simple add/hold requests). The servers, while affable, do not have a systematic process for managing orders. This disorganization causes many trips back to the table for clarification or to provide overlooked drinks/sides/silverware... Exceptionally rude owners that seem to find their customers bothersome.

Least authentic Mexican food I've ever had. The chicken tacos had no seasoning at all, the beans and enchilada sauce tasted like they were out of a can, and the cheese was just regular cheddar cheese. We waited 45 min for our crappy food and an hour for something to drink. Our experience here was a fail.

Mi Mexico was delicious. We went for lunch and I thought I ordered a lunch-sized burrito. It was the size of a small baby. I wanted to pass up on 1/2 of it and take it home but it's deliciousness willed me to consume almost all of it. I had always wanted to see what this place was about and I'm glad I did. The decor was over the top but in a colorful sort of way. The only negative would be the lunch pricing. For a lunch portion, I don't need to eat an 8lb burrito. I will but I don't need to. Everyone else at the table really enjoyed their Mi Mexico deliciousness as well. A not-so-discussed perk to the place - really, really good iced tea. It's harder to find than you think. All and all - would I go back? I want to. Would I recommend it to others? You bet. Buffalo Grove isn't known for it's Mexican fare so it's a good find. Go check it out.

We keep coming back to this place. No disappointments, ever. Excellent fajitas. Excellent fish and seafood dishes like snapper Veracruz and seafood burritos. Nice enough place to take guests, yet homey enough to relax and enjoy your meal.

This place is just horrible--- I rarely write reviews, but this restaurant is so bad that I am justified in having to reset my yelp.com password to write this review in hopes that other people do not have to suffer through bland salsa, horrible wait-times, and poorly prepared, completely lacking of flavor Mexican food. We went for a work lunch, and I knew what to expect from previous experiences (what can I say, I'm a sucker for a free lunch!) but left wishing I'd eaten the 2 month old Lean Cuisine I have as emergency backup. Seriously, if you live in the northern suburbs do not go here. I have no clue why the place was packed today....

  • Corey N.

Probably what should be expected from americanized Mexican food chain. The food itself came scalding hot and could not be consumed for most of the visit. Much like eating at Chili's in past experience, food either comes half frozen or is capable of causing 3rd degree burns. No problem with the service though and the drinks were alright. The outdoor seating was also nice, but had a real bug problem (gnats). boo gnats.

It's good here! I get the carnitas and I finish everything. Altho I prefer to go to more quick service taco joints, this place is good for a sit down. Prices for lunch are reasonable too.

PROS: Good, authentic mexican cuisine with lots of flavor. AMAZING Tequila list Prompt service Some Mexican dude playing guitar CONS: Servers weren't the friendliest Prices were a tad steep, in my opinion Margarita was a tad weak. Pros outweigh the cons; I'll definitely dine here again. Soon!

THE WORST SERVICE EVER!!! I work across the street a co-worker suggested that we try authentic Mexican food, instead of our usually Chipotle. I agree. Called in the order over the phone. Told him that I had two orders (this is important later). He said ok. First order was Lunch special Express Burrito, beef. Second order was burrito (#4). I told him that all I wanted was rice, chicken, beans and cilantro in my burrito. He asked did you want cheese on top. I stated no cheese at all in the regular burrito and no coleslaw. FAST FORWARD--picking up order. When we got to the restaurant our order was put together. The guy, assuming the owner, stated that I should have told him "two separate bills" instead of two orders. I've never heard two orders not meaning two bills, but ok. MY BAD. Split the bill no problem. As we were leaving the parking lot, I had a feeling to check my food. THANK GOODNESS I DID!! The first order was "right"; (come to find out just right looking). My order was completely wrong. The rice and beans were on the side, there was cheese on my beans, some kind of sauce all over my food and coleslaw. I was a little upset, but no worries because they'll fix my food right? This man was horrible. Not only did he tell me that I could not read the menu, he stated that he could just take the cheese off the top of the beans. I was very upset. He stated that everyone knows that the burrito comes with sauce on top and that it was on the menu. I told him to show me where it was on the menu and that it's apparent that not everyone knows, since I didn't; but if the menu stated what you gave me, it wouldn't matter. He didn't have his glasses on so I read it to him, on his own menu, where it states nothing about sauce on the regular burrito. He kept saying that I was wrong and the reason the order was messed up was because of me. I could not believe it. Not only did you put cheese on my food (after you asked, and I specifically told you not too), you added coleslaw on my plate and did make my burrito incorrectly.....but I'm wrong. I informed him that I was allergic to cheese and just taking it off the beans was not good enough. He stated that I should have told him exactly how I wanted the burrito. I thought my order was simple...in the burrito all iw ant is rice, beans and cilantro. Nothing less, nothing more. He stated that the order that I want is $10, not the $8 for what if ordered. I told him to give me the food I order, keeping the rice and beans on the side and I'll make my own burrito if it is that difficult. The arrogance....I could not believe it. I should have told him to cancel my order. He brought me a new burrito, just the way I wanted it. He stated that he was not charging me extra like he should for it. I told him, if he wanted he could take it back and give me the food the way I ordered it. Also informed him that telling a customer that it is their fault that the food came out wrong, when it is blatant that the menu does not describe the food I was given, does not make sense. His condescending manner is rude. We'll not be going there anymore!! As for the food...the express burrito order was just beef and rice come to find out. No beef. Our department as decided never to order from here again. STAY FAR, FAR, FAR AWAY!!!

I made reservations for mothers day 2 weeks in advance. Once there we were ignored by the staff who were standing by the door chatting. When they noticed us I was told there were no reservations under that name. The suggestion was made that perhaps I scheduled reservations for a different day and not mothers day. We ended up waiting at the bar. The bartender ignored us for a while. He asked what we wanted and made no attempt at conversation. The food is very delicious and the portions are very generous. Their margarita is more like a glass of ice with a dash of margarita. There is no Horchata... something every Mexican restaurant should have. The waiter was very pleasant and kept checking on us consistently. That was impressive considering it was mothers day. The whole decor and feel of the restaurant was cozy and pleasant. Sometimes they have live music and that makes it extra special.

Very surprised to find a relatively authentic Mexican restaurant with good service in the Chicago suburbs. Read reviews complaining about service but . . . my visit (a Thursday night) was terrific. I had literally 4 people come up to me within 5 minutes of my being seated to take a drink order. After that, service was attentive and prompt. Anything I requested (e.g, extra napkins) was provided immediately even though the restaurant was reasonably crowded. And the servers seemed genuinely interested in my having an enjoyable meal. The food was more "authentic" than most Mexican restaurants I've patronized. The menu is extensive with everything from "American Mexican" food to authentic Mexican food. Almost everyone can find something to love. For those who want totally authentic Mexican food . . . visit Mexico. My food was hot and tasty. My only nit is that the chips provided with salsa were a bit thick/heavy for my taste. There is hot and mild salsa -- and it was nice that the "hot" was truly hot, just enough to want a sip of water but not enough to make it unpleasant. As for drinks . . . the basic margarita was good. Water was refilled without my asking. My only other nit . . . the chairs (vs. booth) are a bit uncomfortable after a long day and, after an hour, I was wishing for a booth. I highly recommend this place. Can't compare it to other Chicago Mexican restaurants as I'm from out of town. But it compares very favorably to the Mexican chain restaurants -- definitely better than the "average" Mexican restaurant north of the border. Give it a try and, if you're worried about crowds, try a weeknight.

Quick to bring out your food, friendly service, nicely decorated. Food was a little bit bland, but it was tasty enough and they give you very large portions. Came here for our lunch break during the work day with a few co-workers. Caution - the salsa is very hot!!

Mi Mexico was billed as "better than actual restaurants in Mexico" by a friend. I think that description does a huge disservice to actual Mexican cuisine. Bland, overpriced pseudo-Mexican food covered with copious amounts of cheddar cheese. Service was OK, but I've had better carne azada from Taco Bell. No horchata - what the hell?! Good tequila and bar list if you like overpaying for your drinks.

I'm from out of town, staying here during the week until the end of the year. My Hotel doesn't have a restaurant, so I'm forced to eat out every night and have done so since mid-January. Needless to say, I've eaten just about everywhere. Also, for some context, I've also eaten home-made food in Mexico and I'm pretty versed in what makes for an authentic dining experience. I travelled aimlessly yesterday, based on Yelp reviews, to several Mexican joints and didn't bother going into any of them- They either served no alcohol and/or looked like a complete dive. A co-worker today shared with me her favorite, Mi Mexico. The reviews were so low that Siri didn't even offer this as a choice. Are you kidding? This place was very good!! I sat down at the bar, was served chips (a little too thick for my liking, but warm, which was good) and a very flavorful salsa (which another reviewer here described as "bland"- Really??) Service was great, Sangria was fantastic as was the Deluxe Beef Burrito, which was scarfed down in short order. Full disclosure: I'm on an expense account, so I didn't pay for it. But then again, I haven't paid for a meal since January and I've eaten at plenty of local places which weren't good, so I don't believe my judgment is colored here. I had to laugh at some of these negative reviews- Don't go if you can't appreciate good, authentic Mexican food- Shorter wait for me next time Gringo!!

First thing I like, its family owned, not some jizzed up chain like PF Changs or similar. Its typical Mexican tacky decor, bright colors, tequila signs, sun dials, hats etc, which is oddly cool. Staff is friendly and also Mexican, which is a huge plus. I dont want any nerdy hipsters serving me Tacos Al Pastor. Pacifico on draft is a nice surprise and very welcome. The menu is insanely huge, probably too big by common sense standards, but if you cannot find something you like here, then your in trouble. There are even selections for those food terrorists known as vegetarians. Its 7:30pm on a Wed and its crowded, which is a good sign in my book. Salsa and chips, standard sit down fare and the salsa is hot and thin, which is real Mexican. Sorry that some other reviewers didnt like that. My meal was good, typical rice and beans side dishes, but all around flavor full and served hot. For North of Chicago, its pretty good Mexican, its not Cali or Arizona good, but not much is. Food is solid and a nice change.

I went with several friends, and everything we ordered was great! The ingredients were fresh, the food came quick and hot, and everything tasted great. Our server was very attentive, and helpful (they have a pretty massive menu, so we need a few suggestions). The prices were fair, given the HUGE portions. I'm definitely looking forward to going again, and trying out more of the menu. The only catch is that it's a little tricky to pull into their lot. They're just a little north of Lake Cook. Their entrance isn't on Milwaukee, but around the corner on Prague Ave. - but there's a center median so you can't easily turn turn on Prague, from Northbound Milwaukee. If you miss the turn, you can loop around from the Chevy Chase club entrance. Once on Prague, enter from the side, go around back behind the building, and park on the south side of the building. Exiting, you can only go south on Milwaukee, but you can easily loop around at the Speedway gas station. It's a minor nuisance, but so worth it - the food is that good!

A gringo walks in, snow lightly dusting his shoulders. The cruel winter wind makes small flurries dance past him and into Mi Mexico. He slowly looks up to the hostess, tilts his rabbit fur hat back and says. "I want something hot and spicy, and I want it now." Mi Mexico is bringing a little of the Mexican heat into frigid Chicago. They have a wide range of the usual taqueria favorites plus a page of specialty page that ranges from fancy salads to steaks. Their food is competent, but nothing that is exactly going to make the taste buds jump out of your mouth. However the price is right for what you're getting. Combo meals are a huge plate of food. The restaurant itself is filled with brightly painted imported art and chairs. However you can tell that this place is a conversion. (It used to be weber grill) The building has a Tudor feel. It doesn't affect the food, but if you're looking for a place with a distinct ambiance, this isn't really it. It has a very small outdoor seating area. All in all, I go here because its close, I never need reservations, and the price is right.

Large portions, delicious food and acoustic Spanish covers of classic rock songs, what's not to love? What's that? The decor? Stop being so nit-picky. Is this place Classy? Not really, no. But the food is amazing and the service is great and the prices are very fair. I've yet to find a dish I did not enjoy, but for the sake of doing my yelp duty, I will continue to try. They have an excellent and lengthy menu so it may take some time but that's a commitment I'm ready to make.

I come here for lunch a few times a month. They have great lunch specials for around $8. Everything i have tried from the enchiladas to the burritos to the tacos have all been great. I've taken many co-workers from out of town there and they've all loved it! The salsa and chips they give you to start are great, especially if you like spicy salsa!!! You can ask for mild, but the spicy is delicious!!!

We love Mi Mexico, best Mexican place around. All the servers are nice (except one guy), and the original margaritas are yummy. Love the tortilla soup, it's nice and thick, with big pieces of juicy grilled chicken and fresh avocado. We always get a Salad Tapatia, which is a big steak salad with olive oil vinaigrette. Good prices. Good guacamole.

I really hate giving bad reviews but it's also important to be honest. The food here is good, there's no question about it. If you don't care about the quality of service or how strong your drink is, the traditional food will not disappoint you. Some people just want a quality Mexican restaurant and they don't care about the quality of service (heck some places make money by insulting you). I went here on a Saturday night with four family members. The five us were taken to a large booth and we all had complimentary chips and salsa. I really liked the salsa but I didn't try the hot salsa. This is where we started to have problems. It took 10 minutes to get our drink order and another 15 minutes after that to bring our drinks and take our food order. We ordered queso fundido for an appetizer which was pretty tasted. I ordered a peach margarita but of course it wasn't strong enough for my taste. I had a chicken tostada, very good even though they called the portion light (it was certainly not a light portion). I also ordered a side of chips and guacamole and the server came out with a bowl of cut up avocado. I'm pretty sure three slivers of avocado is not the same thing as guacamole. We get that situation straightened out but it still took us forever to get drink refills and the check. Our server really tried but in the end they were just too busy to accommodate every guest.

Mi Mexico is a quick place for us to go at lunch from work. The chips are often stale and the salsa is a little spicy for some people. I'd also say that the regular Americanized meals like tacos and burritos are not very good here. Having said that, their real mexican meals like Arroz Con Pollo and Carne Asada are delicious. The sauces are excellent and the mixture of foods are always something I look forward to. The service is generally friendly and quick.

The fact that this place is across from the winery is a huge plus in my book as it's not far to go after a little imbibing! I have eaten here many times and have walked away satiated and happy each time. I always order cheese enchiladas in mole. While their mole sauce doesn't bring me to my knees, it does the job of scratching my mole itch. My husband always orders the pollo culichi (chicken in a creamy pepper and mushroom sauce). The food is tasty and the service friendly. Everything is consistent.

Mi Mexico is average at best. My main gripe that I don't appreciate is the shredded American type cheese on the tacos- not very authentic. The tortilla soup was gross- a huge portion of what looked like vodka sauce and huge peices of chicken which normally isn't that bad but overall it was just weird and not good. The food in general was bland and average. Not sure how people think this is authentic. The decor was very nice and clean and the service I received was good so no gripes in this department.

I have never had anything but a positive experience at Mi Mexico. When you walk in the door, you are welcomed with a friendly greeting by the owners. The waiters are attentive and courteous. Their margaritas are excellent. I'm not a fan of their burritos or tacos as there is a bit too much sauce, but their Polo a la crema is outstanding as are many of the other items on their menu. The portions are huge, the food is always fresh and served piping hot. I think their prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion size. On the weekends, they have a guitar player who plays Neil Diamond with a Mexican flair! That tends to be a little loud and unsettling so I recommend sitting in the back room on the weekends!

I went on a Sunday Afternoon and it was pretty dead so service was quick. I'd say for this neck of the woods it's pretty good. Chips and salsa standard, our food was pretty good. I ordered the Vallarta salad which comes with shrimp, mango, avocado and a citrus dressing oh and large portions are definitely something to keep in mind. I'll be back for two reasons 1. it's super close to home and 2. Pricing is affordable. My mom said she'd been here when it first opened and the food wasn't that good but this time around she really liked it. I like that they have a bar section too if you want to just come in and grab a margarita after work. The only downside is they close early, but I guess that's to be expected for this area.

This place should really get about 3.5 stars. The food was good, but slightly bland (I had the chicken flautas). The portions were generous as well - you won't leave there hungry. Drinks were outstanding - best margarita I've had in a while. Prices were SUPER cheap ($138 for 9 people, including drinks, but not tip). My only gripe was about the service. When we first arrived, there was no one at the hostess stand, but several employees (including someone who I think was a manager) were walking around and saw us standing there, yet never asked if we needed help. Eventually, several minutes later, I got someone's attention and we were then promptly seated. While the server was nice & very friendly, he was a bit slow with taking orders and bringing drinks. At one point he came around to refill water, but only filled the glasses of 3 people when all of us could have used refills. We also had to continually ask for things such as place settings (half were missing), plates for the complimentary chips & salsa, etc. Would I go back? Sure. But next time I'll have a better idea of what to expect.

Had dinner there last night and two of us had Fish Tacos and the other two had Fajitas. The Fajitas were average, thought the chicken and peppers were way too greasy. The Fish Tacos were barely edible, their 'special sauce' appeared to be 1000 Island dressing. I did complain to the waiter and he did make a very sad face, which then made us all sad. But a pitcher of Margarita's for only $17.00 solved everything, but please don't get fooled into the $32.00 Patron pitcher of Margarita's. I love Patron but that is just plain silly to waste it in a cocktail mix!

I've been looking for a great authentic Mexican restaurant, and I finally found it at Mi Mexico! The food is fantastic - fajitas are my fav. The prices are very reasonable, and I haven't had to wait for a table yet. I'm hooked.

I went to Mi Mexico for lunch this week and it was my first time. Friends at work go frequently, so I figured I'd give it a try. It's a cute place, looks a lot like Lalo's or some other generic Mexican spot. The servers seemed to speak more English than Spanish, which is all good. Anyhow, when our server came for the drink order, I asked for my usual - an orchata. Response: "I'm sorry, we only have Coke products". So I just got a water. The menu has a lot of great options, especially for lunch. There are regular lunch specials, and then entrees that can be ordered as 1/2 portions or full portions. I went with two friends: 1 ordered the 'Camarones a la Crema' (served with tortillas; smelled delicious, looked super rich); the other ordered the 'Beef Carnitas' (looked delicious). I ordered the Picadillo Chimichanga (lunch special #7). It's a huge portion.. one giant chimichanga topped with guacamole and sour cream, served with cheesy beans and rice. It was good, nothing spectacular though. But I'd probably order it again. For 3 of us, the bill was $30 and some change. Not bad! Overall... while I believe every regular Mexican restaurant should have orchata and jarritos on their drink menus, this place is ok. The lunch portions are great, and the food was overall good and served very hot. I think I'll add it to my list of lunch spots and go maybe 4 times a year.

I go here regularly for lunch. Except for Cinco de Mayo, service is quick (45 min seat to check) no wait to sit. This may change as it is getting busier each week. Food is great & excellent portions. Lunch usually runs $12-15 with tip per person.

Actually it should be NO STARS!!!!! I've never written a review, but this place is so bad, I feel compelled!!! The food was AWFUL!!!!! Not authentic AT ALL. In fact it insults my heritage. I've never seen yellow cheez or coleslaw served with Mexican food before!!!!!! Unbelievable!!!! Also VERY unfriendly staff and a rude waiter! The only enjoyable part of the night was the music!! Disgusting food, horrible experience overall :( sad sad sad

Their Caldo de Pollo (chicken soup) is to die for! I've had it 3 times now and I've only been here two weeks. I also had their guacamole-- both were fresh and very tasty. Definitely recommend!

Great "Family" restaurant. good prices, better than average food, great hot salsa (but I'd prefer a little more cilantro). My husband has made it our TGIF place to go after a long week of work for both of us. We get the two burritos (one chicken and one steak) and they are amazing. white chicken and decent steak. Very filling, we could even split but we take 1/2 of each home for the next day. good nachos too! Staff wants to please and it's nice to go somewhere that is not a chain restaurant for a change.

I still like the Arroz con Pollo, but the service has gone down in the last two visits. Very slow for times that the restaurant did not seem packed. I'd still recommend mixing the two salsas they provide at the table. The mild is a little on the sweet side and the hot, is just plain hot.

I had a review of Mi Mexico back on Dec 31st, which was removed. Can someone at Yelp let me know why? Thanks This was my review back then. After seeing the sign go up, I was looking forward to trying Mi Mexico. My wife and I gave it a try this New Years Eve. We both ordered the Carne Asada(Skirt Steak). It was the worst we have ever had. The steak tasted like it was soaked in cooking oil and had no taste other than the taste of burnt oil. The owner came to the table and offered us another meal. We were so grossed out with the steaks we lost our appetites. The owning said they did not cook the steak in oil, but agreed it was not right. They did comp everything including the drinks each of us had ordered. I insisted on paying for the drinks and they would not take the money. That was the only plus on the night! We wound up at Bob Chinns, so much for the Mexican theme!

Let me qualify the 2 stars by saying this would have been a 4 star review had our waiter provided average service. This guy wasn't just bad, but horrible. Five times did he ignore our request for refills on drinks, more chips, and the tortillas that were supposed to be served with my dinner never came after reminding him twice. Although the restaurant was full, there were at least a half dozen servers on the floor plus a rover so I wouldn't say they were understaffed or extraordinarily busy. Thankfully the rover re-filled our drinks a couple times and was able to run my credit card at the end of our meal. The guy was just a horrible server - your experience may (and probably will) be better, but unfortunately, service this bad deserves a two-star knock. Having been a bartender, waiter, and delivery driver, I have not tipped less than 15% in nearly ten years - it was painful to leave a 10% tip (the absolute minimum I would ever leave under any circumstances short of being accosted by the waiter), but that is what was deserved. OK... that being said -- my wife and I enjoyed our dinner. We only waited about 5 minutes to be seated. My wife had a friggin' huge burrito and I had a shrimp dish (the menu says prawns, but let me assure you, these were nowhere near large enough to be considered a prawn). The food had decent taste but didn't altogether scream "fresh" in my book, temperature and presentation were good, and speed was excellent. I would say that this ranks around the 67th percentile (top third) of Mexican restaurants I've experienced. My wife was a bit more generous at the 80th percentile. The quality is definitely better than franchised Mexican restaurants, but I didn't get the authentic Mexican flavor as I had hoped -- but considering the tastes of people in Buffalo Grove, I certainly understand why they've "dumbed-down" (i.e. Americanized) their offerings. The only real knock against the food was the salsa served with the obligatory chips & salsa appetizer. I expect authentic Mexican restaurants to serve fresh, home-made salsa. I got the impression that this was neither. It was mostly liquid (it ran right off the chip), the cilantro leaves were wilted and not very flavorful, and I just plain didn't enjoy our "Mexican appetizer." I'd say it was adequate at best, but maybe I'm setting expectations too high. I think we'll go back again sometime. I'm willing to overlook the service this time, and if it's better next time, I will give the four stars Mi Mexico deserves.

I finally have a favorite Mexican restaurant in Chicago! I tried a 1/2 bowl of the tortilla soup as an appetizer. It had tender chunks of chicken with clumps of gooey melted cheese in it and the flavor was delicious. For dinner, I had a grilled shrimp salad with a mango vinaigrette dressing that was enjoyable. The decor is colorful and pretty. For instance, the chairs look like they have been hand carved and each painted by an artist. The only thing preventing me from giving it five stars was the service - it was crowded tonight and our waiter was overworked. Otherwise, I loved this place.

FrankiR What part of my review don't you understand? To put it more clear to you, The food was horrible! They are plenty of great Mexican restaurants in Chicago as well! Mi Mexico is not one of them! Again one of the owners came to our table and agreed our steaks were not cooked right. He agreed the steak was way to greasy! The service was fine and all the staff was pleasant and apologetic, but the food sucked!

Been here for lunch couple times and the lunch specials are good and par for the course. Good portion for me and maybe even be too much for some people. Going off their lunch menu seems to have some more extravagant dishes that obviously cost more and have shrimp and fish thrown in there. Overall, pretty decent place to go to for their lunch specials.

The all-time worst Mexican food I have every had!! The margaritas were watered-down (how do you ruin a margarita?), the food was bland mush. When we inquired about allergy concerns and food preferences (vegetarian) the waiter was clueless and totally indifferent. The guitar player was loud, tone-deaf and and played along with pre-recorded music -- did I mention he was LOUD. The fish in the fish taco was fishy, slimy and raw. When I mentioned this to the waiter he shrugged -- really? Also, we made a reservation for 6 but at the last minute my son decided that he needed to stay home and study for a big test. When we arrived the host told us that next time if we reduced our guest count on a reservation that they would cancel our reservation and not seat us. Don't worry, on the way out I told him that he would never have to worry about us changing our reservation again because we would never, ever come again. And, he continued to give me attitude. Scratch this place off your list forever.

Great food. Weekend evenings usually have guitar player(s). Chips and salsa are a great start to the meal, and the menu is varied enough to satisfy everyone. Service is good and we never felt rushed, even during the busy times.

Had a very god dinner with our family. Margaritas were very tasty and the chile colorado was tender and the sauce was perfect. Worth doing again.

I will absolutely give the service five stars. Everyone from the person who seated us to the waitress, were very nice and carried a pleasant smile. Everyone knows that I love going to restaurants where the wait staff can recommend selections from the menu. Our waitress recommended I try the Camarones Al Mojo De Ajo and it was a very good recommendation for me! There was ONE problem and I'll talk about that first. When my food came out, the shrimp was butterflied but still in its shell, and with the legs and that black vein down the back (see photo) but the saving grace to this was, it removed easily. When I removed the shell, the legs AND the vein (or poo) went with it. I don't know how but possibly their butterfly technique is the reason why. Okay so now that I'm past the bad, the flavor of my meal was fantastic. I'm not a refried bean fan so I picked over those but the shrimp, rice, and that mushroom tomato onion mixture under the shrimp was delish!! We were told of this place by another coworker and I'm glad we decided to go AND I hope we can go back before we leave this city because I want more and I would order the exact same thing!

I can keep this one simple. Wide variety of hit or miss Mexican food. It took me a few visits here with mediocre dishes to find something I really like. Dos Amigos which is an extra spicy scallop, shrimp, and mushroom dish. Service is horrendous when they are busy. Understaffed a bit. I love the dish I come here for though. :)

I ate there a few nights ago based on positive yelp reviews and was disappointed. The salsa that comes with the chips is more like a hot sauce. Unless you have a good tolerance for spiciness, we found it hard to get much on a chip without burning our mouths. Personal preference thing, though. My wife and I are vegetarians, which is no problem at most Mexican restaurants which are happy to swap out meat for veggies. However, when my wife asked if she could have veggies on the taco salad instead of meat, she was told it would cost a dollar more. That's the first time we've ever been charged MORE for not having the meat option. That said, the salad was very good. The rest of the food was average, except for the fried ice cream. The cinnamon tortilla thing it came in was stale, as was the corn flake coating. The whole thing was cold, so I'm not sure it was even fried.

This is probably my favorite Mexican place in the burbs - maybe tied with Tacos El Norte in Libertyville. But it does have what I'm looking for. 1) Customer service has always been great for us. We've always had extremely speedy service and next-to-no wait for our food, even on busy nights. 2) Sometimes there's entertainment. We went one night and they had a nice cover band. 3) They actually have white cheese dip. I don't know what it is, but a lot of places in the burbs don't seem to have any kind of cheese dip offering. The food is solid. I'm the type that usually gets combo plates rather than specialty menu items, so I'm probably not the pickiest in that regard. But all in all, we've always had a great experience here.

We have been going to Mi Mexico often . Our last time eating there was sept 13th. My 14 month old granddaughter had the chicken Quesodillas and my daughter in law found a bone in the chicken. That could have been dangerous and my DIL found a bone in her meal of a chicken burrito. She chipped a tooth as a result. We told the manager and his comment was can I get you something for Free .What a jerk! We wont be going back there.

Ok, I'm Mexican and obviously know my Mexican food. I thought this place was mediocre. The only thing that stood out from other Mexican restaurants was their skirt steak. The skirt steak was actually pretty good! It taste like if it was just fresh off the grill. Here are a list of - & + of why I only gave this place 2 stars. Negatives -1. No sopes 2. No horchata 3. Tacos are only a single tortilla not double 4. $2.00 extra for skirt steak (I've never heard of charging extra for skirt steak but whatever I still ordered my taco with it) 5. Charge for green salsa (didn't get the green salsa) 6. Totally Americanized enchiladas, horrible! 7. They ask you if you want hard or soft shell tacos???(what is this TACO BELL?) 8. Our bill was $50.00 not including tax for 2 adults and 1 child. Call me cheap I dont care but I can go to a better mexican restaurant and pay way less then $50.00 and for more food! Positive: 1. Good service 2. Served chips and salsa on the house 3. Looked clean 4. the skirt steak was actually pretty good!!!! I would go back again but only for the skirt steak. 5. Beans and rice were I guess decent. Hope this helps!!!

Great margarita's, excellent selection of tequila, one of the best I've ever seen! If it was purely a bar I would give it 5 stars, but since it is also a restaurant I can only give it 3, food isn't bad, just not as authentic Mexican as it would appear. Tacos are hard shell with lettuce and tomato, instead of soft corn with onions and cilantro, pork is not simmered and pulled, it is literally 3 chunks of dry meat, very disappointing. But as far as drinks go awesome. Enchiladas aren't bad, neither is the rice or beans, but there are way better places locally to get authentic Mexican food

I frequent this place quite often and think it's actually one of the better Mexican restaurants. Portions are huge - however the Margaritas aren't that strong but that's ok I guess. For vegetarians, I recently found out that the rice is made with chicken broth so for myself and other vegetarians / vegans might want to be careful what dishes you chose and to ask the waiter or ask a few of them. Other than that, I like this place. Quality of food is good, prices are ok, kinda festive - service however can be slow even when dining with 1 or 2 others.

I went in to get take out for lunch. I ordered the taco and enchilada lunch special. When I opened it, no taco. :( Also, it was all thrown in one tin instead of a partitioned foam container so it was more of a lunch "scramble". Food was OK. Not sure that I would be back for takeout anyway.

Mi Mexico is a fundamental family mexican-style restaurant. The food is what you expect from such. Free chips/salsa is nice as you sit down. There are three different salsas: mild, medium, hot. Extremely friendly waitstaff and service boost Mi Mexico from a 3/5 to a 4/5

This place is amazing! Sad that people drive past it all day long and don't go in to check it out. The decorations are very unique and fun. They have large, tasty frozen margaritas which come in a variety of flavors. Their burritos and fajitas are amazing and the portions are huge. In addition, I always get an extra side of refried beans. Check this place out for drinks and good food with friends.

My wife and I eat here several times a month. We love their food. The service is fast and friendly. True story - we left a take out taco dinner behind. The manager called us and then drove to our home to drop it off! That is service! Free chips and salsa, even with take out. If you like spicy their hot salsa is one of my favorites.

Today I ordered carryout from this place. My review of the food is ok. However, when I found that my order was incorrect, I called to see if there was something they could do to correct the situation. Instead of inviting me back to come get the correct order, the woman on the phone (who claimed to be the manager on duty) proceeded to tell me that I was in the wrong for ordering it the wrong way and she was insincerely apologetic. She kept trying to rush me off the phone. There was nothing done to correct the situation and I was forced to eat for an overpaid overpriced meal that I didn't want. Bottom Line: I DO NOT recommend eating at this place if you expect to be treated with respect as a paying customer. God only knows what happens if you send the food that you never ordered back to be corrected. I'm almost thankful that I decided to cut my losses and just vow NEVER to eat here again. I'd rather not like to think that the woman probably spits in every plate since she is so stressed or something. I could literally feel her eyes rolling on the other end of the line. I will tell all my friends and guests at my hotel not to go here. I'd rather support a competent small business owner rather than this woman who made me feel like a burden unto her restaurant. Get it right lady! This economy isn't going to support your rudeness.

The reviews on here, geez! Folks this is not a Mexican restaurant. Who ever heard of a Mexican restaurant serving FLOUR tortillas? I couldn't believe it! i lived in LA for 10 years and one of my favorite treats was shredded beef enchiladas. If you ever go to LA you really must have them. They are phenomenal. When I came back to my sweet home Chicago, no more shredded beef enchiladas. Not a big deal because I'm only in the greatest food city in the world, but I did miss them. We went to mi Mexico for a company lunch. When I saw shredded beef enchiladas on the menu, I had to go for it. Now I haven't eaten beef in about 15 years so it was risky, but I just had to have them. Well when we finally did get the food, incredibly bad service, I eagerly dove into the enchiladas. I thought maybe something was up with my taste buds or something. They were truly disgusting. I thought what's going on? I tried a few more bites, you know when you don't have something for so many years and then you get it, you kind of make all kinds of excuses. I couldn't figure out what was going on. Was I getting sick? There's no flavor, it's not moist, not spicy, what's up with that? I decided to try the rice and beans. OMG, really disgusting. I pushed the plate away. I figured I must be getting ill, there's no way you can mess up rice and beans. Just then I noticed something odd, the people with me ordered Fajitas (typical) when they arrived, the tortilla warmer had flour tortillas. I looked kind of shocked, flour tortillas? So then when I finally saw the waiter again, I decided to ask, "Were the enchiladas made with flour tortillas?" He responded as if I'd stated the obvious, "Yes, of course". WHAT???? A Mexican restaurant made enchiladas with flour tortillas. So disgusting I thought I'd die. I haven't been to Mexico in a lot of years but I feel pretty confident in saying they don't make flour tortillas. That's strictly a disgusting American invention. So needless-to-say, I didn't eat anymore, but apparently I'd eaten enough because about 20 minutes later I was returning my meal to restaurant's bathroom. Both ways. I think the point is, don't go. Unless you're not that into Mexican food because they don't serve it here.

My coworkers love this place for some reason. The cheese dip is great for an appetizer, but the rest of the food was meh. Actually, I always order the carne asada, that's an awesome deal for $8.95 at lunch with a pretty decent portion and pretty tasty steak. I did decide to venture out and try the enchiladas, but those weren't so great, but the beans and rice that come with it were pretty good. but whatever you do, don't order anything with chicken in it, it ALWAYS comes out dry.

I was feeling like some good Mexican food while I was back in the states. (something I miss being overseas) Mi Mexico was close by and I went there with a friend. I had the big burrito and it was simply okay. It did taste a bit bland, but I had plenty of guac and salsa to take care of that problem. The service was great. They were really on the spot with the drinks. The prices were reasonable as well.

This is a great it-down family Mexican restaurant. Big menu, good food, reasonable prices, and has become our go-to place for lazy weekend lunch. Casual and relaxing, good chips and salsa (at dinner and some other times they bring you both mild and hot salsas with the free chips, both are tasty). They also have small non-Mexican section on the menu with cheeseburgers etc. if you have that sort of people with you. There's a kid's meal option (choice of entree plus rice and beans for ~$6). Excellent soups and salads. Everything tastes fresh. Big private parking lot, easy to get to from the street with a traffic signal just south of the restaurant or from the side street just before the restaurant if you're coming south on Milwaukee. They have lots of seating and can probably accommodate relatively large parties on short notice. 4.5 stars.

A fellow Yelper recommended this place a few months back so thought I would stop in to check on their food, more specifically, their mole sauce. I ordered the only mole dish there and wished I had not. I have had better out of the jar mole. Service was non-existent chips were stale and salsa also tasted like it was just tomato sauce out of a jar. Pretty pricey for what it had to offer. Seriously, I will stick with Maria's.

This is the worst place for customer service!! If you're not Caucasian or Latino you will be treated like crap. We came here and had the same disrespectful server - no doubt the food is decent. But I will never step foot in here again - we were basically told that we were expecting to much and that if we wanted another salsa we should pay - which we had no problem with - if they had told us that first instead of basically treating us as children and saying we need to finish what was there first. I hate this place and the employees.

One of my friends asked if I wanted to meet here for dinner after work last night. Realizing it was going to be Cinco de Mayo (it was the only night that worked for everyone, so it was a coincidence), the friend decided to call and see if we could make reservations a week or so ago. She was told the restaurant does not take reservations, but if we came in around 5:30/6, we should have no problems finding a seat, even on Cinco de Mayo. Cut to yesterday when I pulled into the parking lot and there are no available parking spots. None. This didn't bode well. The lot is segmented, so you can't easily get from one part of the lot to another without backing out of the portion you just turned into. I ended up parking on a nearby side street (no parking restrictions). I went inside and my friend was already seated with chips and veyr, very spicy salsa. I sat there for a good 10 minutes before our waiter came by to take our drink order. I had a margarita on special that night for $7.95. It was nothing special. A busboy came and asked if we wanted more chips and salsa. We said yes, and my friend asked for a more mild salsa. I'm no stranger to heat, but it was hot. We never did get that mild salsa. We waited a while longer and our waiter finally came back to take out order. Shrimp fajitas for me and chicken fajitas for my friend. The food itself was not bad. I had a huge portion of shrimp and veggies, along with a lot of rice and beans. I knew I'd have leftovers. We were just starting to chat when a mariachi band comes into the room and stands right next to our table. They proceed to start singing and playing their instruments. At first, I really liked it. It was fun to see them play. But they just kept playing song and song. They were playing a few feet from us for over 20 minutes. They did eventually move into the other room, but it was still really loud, and it was hard to have a conversation. They were in the other room for around 15 minutes or so. Then, they came back and started playing next to us again. It was clear we wouldn't be able to have a girls night catch-up conversation. At that point, we had already finished our dinner, and flagged our waiter down for boxes and our check. He came back relatively quickly and we were out of there, squeezing past the jam packed bar area, to get outside. Maybe we shouldn't have gone to a Mexican restaurant on Cinco de Mayo and expected a low key dinner. But, even so, the music was just too loud, and the band played for too long non-stop. Service was just OK as well, as our waiter disappeared for long periods of time. I would go back again to try something else off the menu, but if I don't have a good experience next time, I wouldn't go back for trip #3.

I really wanted to like this place, especially as it markets itself as family-friendly. But the food was bland and not authentic at all. Guacamole was so-so and I nearly broke a tooth off because a piece of the avocado pit was included with it. The corn chips were extra hard too. Chicken tacos and choriqueso were bland. Tortillas didn't taste fresh. Will look elsewhere for better Mexican on the north shore.

Been here regularly for years. Love the pollo fundido enchiladas divorciadas enchiladas deluxe carnitas and tacos al pastor. It is reliably good authentic Mexican cuisine flavorful and satisfying. Maybe not exciting but great comfort food. Service has always been great except when they busy and even then they have never been rude.

This restaurant is highly visible from Milwaukee, and I must have driven past it thousands of times, over the years. I can recall bookmarking it on Yelp after scoping the neighborhood for good, authentic Mexican, as the reviews were great. The CFL (Chicago Fit Life) crew decided to plan a night out. When Mi Mexico was mentioned, I sprung off the floor to exclaim how excited I was- and that we HAD to try it. Saturday 1-10-15, 6 of us were seated at a table. There was a mariachi man singing and playing guitar, which was a nice surprise. Even more surprising was that he played more American music, (like Stairway to Heaven and sweet Caroline). It was well done, especially for a one man show, but certainly didn't pair well with his sombrero, attire, or ambiance of the restaurant. Salsa and chips were served- one spicy and one mild. Both were great, and the heat off the spicy was delicious! We ordered guac, after flagging a waiter down, and began to realize that the service was going to be a hurdle. When dining with a party, I'm less of a stickler for frequent visits by staff. My focus is on food, fun, and mainly, my friends. That being said, we always had to flag staff down to order. Whether drinks, chip refills and to check on our food order. From food order to table delivery, was about an hour. While I wasn't bothered by this, other members of our crew were less than tickled about the wait. But boy, was it worth it. I ordered the seafood soup. Sopa Siete Ma..... Yes, I forgot the entire name. Great news though, it's the only seafood soup on the menu. My friend ordered the shrimp burrito and it looked delicious, and he said it was incredible. Back to my soup. It was the last dish to the table, about 5 min after all the others were delivered to my comrades. Worth the wait, it was a huge bowl of delicious broth, packed to the brim with Shrimp, Scallops, Muscles, Clams, Fish, Calamari, Octopus, and a complete Crab leg cluster. If you were playing along, I listed eight (ocho) different types of seafood, in a soup dish that promised seven. WIN!! Every piece was tender, flavorful, and the broth (with the added lime) was delectable!!! Everyone was really enthralled with the food. Well prepared, large portions and authentic flavors filled our table. We finished dinner, and flagged staff down to order two desserts for us to share. Both were delicious, and appropriately shareable. I don't know what I was thinking, not snapping pictures of everything, but it was all worth the wait. Or waits. We even had to flag down staff again, to get the check, and AGAIN, to get them to pick it up. Outside of the service- the food was 5 star, phenomenal. Pricing was reasonable. Atmosphere was fun, colorful, and ambiance was great (less some interesting song selections). If service steps up their game- this place would be a highly recommended restaurant in my books.

This place is so good! I recommend the steak burrito. Of course they start you off with complimentary chips and salsa. I like the salsa - has a little bit of a kick. Not a fan of the chips though... they're the thicker, more traditional kind. I wish they had the thin crispy chips. But... that doesn't stop me from stuffing my face with chips and salsa. Quick and efficient service. I've gone a couple times on my lunch break and I'm always out in a timely matter.

As avid readers of my reviews know (say what?--avid readers?--anyways), we have been on the prowl for Tex-Mex, having found some other restaurants to have taken the route of bland. This restaurant was lively (and musical) on a recent Friday evening. And the food? Not bland, solid! The restaurant is roomy, assuring seating quickly if not immediately. Bright colors surrounding you send the message that this is a fun place. We ordered our usual Tex-Mex: guacamole, steak tacos and chicken enchiladas and one Margarita (what can I say?). One cannot fairly expect a trip to heaven and back with Tex-Mex, but one can expect well seasoned and fresh food--that was the case here. So what I'm saying is you can expect to order your favorite Tex-Mex and have it served quickly with a little feeling of a fiesta, finding your order hits the spot. As for the music, a one-man band guitarist played during the evening. He was good and his music was still conversational friendly. Is he there often? Who knows! Give the place a try, get an answer.

Went there last night. My son likes it there and goes often. Arrived at 5:10pm and had to wait over an hour for a salad and fajitas. Our bill was $75 plus a tip which made the total $90.00. We did order appetizers. However, from the time we ordered our main course it was over an hour. Our waiter did check to tell us after 30 minutes there were 2 tickets ahead of us and that is why it was taking so long...huh? Then after 30 minutes passed again, his answer to us was I am trying to get your food out of the kitchen. I really did not think it was such a struggle to get food out of a restaurant kitchen. We then asked the hostess to check on our food who was standing by the menus and doing nothing and she gave us a snotty answer that she was just about to see where our food was anyhow which she was not. While sitting and waiting for our food a lady came up to the bar, as we sat at a table in the bar, she asked the hostess, as she was behind the bar, where their food was. They were at a long table with 5 couples. She had said they were waiting over an hour. The hostess went on to argue with her and say, "well I actually saw you come in and it was not an hour." When in fact, it actually was an hour as they arrived shortly after us. Not sure why the hostess was doing nothing, if they were so backed up and then felt that it was okay to argue with a customer. I ordered the shrimp appetizer with mushrooms. The shrimp were tiny and the dish was greasy and not worth $11.99. I also asked for plates when they brought chips and salsa to avoid just eating it over the table with no appetizer plates. The bus boy looked at me and laughed as if I was asking too much. I then asked for salsa a bit spicier and he for sure was not happy then. When my salad came, which included red snapper on it, I could tell it had been sitting. The snapper was dry and way overcooked and cold and consisted of lettuce and overcooked fish. We had the drink specials which were margaritas and they were mostly ice and not worth the price. The waiter made sure to apologize to us when he brought the check and over and over again...to insure for a nice tip. Needless to say I won't be back. I am a great cook and we went out to be waited on after a long day at work and relax. Would love to get my money back this place even the salsa was bland and awful.

We had a terrible experience with Juan when we ordered a take out order. Our order was confused with another order. However, the food quality was terrible. We had to argue with Juan at the front and he gave us a very hard time. He did give us a credit for chips and salsa. We went there tonight to get the credit and place an order. We used our credit but changed 1 item and he charged us another $10.00 for a 4.00 $ difference. I called to speak to him about customer servive especially for restaurants to get repeat business. He was extremely argumentative, unprofessional and nasty to me, the customer! We will NEVER go back there and we will share our experience to the neighborhood. The owners of this restaurant should re-evaluate their management and attitudes.

For Buffalo Grove, this has to be the best Mexican restaurant. If you recommend another place, please inform me! Anyway, great and friendly huge. Huuuuge menu. It's def more than just the typical hole in the wall Mexican joint. I enjoyed many of their dishes and even their salads.

We were seated immediately and ordered our booze right away. The decor is bright, cheery, and well-done, and the eating area is spacious. The cheerful painted chairs are a great touch. Our drinks hit the spot and my friend commented on how fresh the Modelo was, especially with the slice of fresh lime. I had the regular margarita and the Pure Gold. The Pure Gold was very good and definitely tasted premium. We both ordered fajitas: steak for him, shrimp for me. Both came with sour cream, guacamole, lettuce, tomatoes, stir fried jalapeños, refried beans and cheese, rice, and grilled tomatoes, onions, and green peppers. Above average and enough for leftovers tomorrow. We left FULL. Pricing is standard for quality Mexican food and attentive, quicker-than-expected service. We'll be back... Even just to sit in the cute bar area and throw back some tequila!

Given the total inability to find tex-mex food and more specifically WHITE QUESO in Las Vegas when I came to Northbrook I put out feelers to find a place I could get some -GO MIDWEST. Mi Mexico wasn't the best Tex Mex I've ever had but it definately hit the spot. The cheese dip wasn't really melted when they brought it to the table but they heated it up and then we were good to go. The chips are especially good- they are really thick so they can stand up to quite a huge amount of dip on there. I was tipped off that the salsa wasn't the best and I would have to agree- but who needs salsa when you have white gold. I got beef fajitas to eat and they were great. The platter of beans/rice etc. that they bring you was overflowing with stuff- not stingy at all. Given how much cheese I forced down my gullet I couldn't even finish it.

Food, chips, guac all really good. What i dont like was the service. Super super super duper super slow! Had to ask for chips Had to ask if we could order Then if we could have dessert Flag him down for the check Then to ring the check so we could leave. Unreal

Stopped by on Thursday evening at 7pm. Only two other tables occupied. Service was terrible. Had to ask for water and chips. Kitchen staff brought the wrong order for both of us. We accidentally touched food with our hands and immediately realized order was pork. I hope they threw out both orders and did not serve food to the correct guests. Finally ten minutes later fish tacos came. I think fish was spoiled. Waiter never even came back so we could return order. We got up and left and went to Chipolte as by now 8:30 and running out of dinning options. Scratch this place of your dining list.

Customer service is terrible. I've also been going here for years and recently held a luncheon for 20 people. Our server a young girl who has waited on me before was rude as well as the older man when asking to refill chips. This is your business so why would you allow this behavior. Your food is good but I won't come back or recommend.

Margaritas were excellent. Food was also very good, but nothing off-the-charts special. I'll preface this with the fact that I love salt, but I thought the chips could use a little bit more and the hot salsa was HOT! I had some sort of tostada and enchilada combo and since I always have trouble deciding on one thing, thought it was great that I didn't really have to choose one...just choose 2! Overall, I'd say very solid Mexican food, and since it isn't far from where I live, will probably be one of my go-to spots when I'm in the mood for downing a margarita while munching on some chips!

Eh, not impressed. Food was basic- nothing to write home about. But its hard to find quality authentic Mexican dishes in Deerfield!

vibrant dining area and overwhelming menu... tons tons tons of items to choose from on the menu - your traditional favorites (tacos), your regional fare (mole) and then EVERYthing else. having said that, i think i was too overwhelmed and ended up ordering a stand-by - spinach enchiladas without carefully reading the description. instead of red/green sauce, they were topped with a very rich and heavy cream sauce that i could not stomach. i scraped off what i could and ate the refried beans and chips instead. from the few bites i was able to save from the drowning cream sauce, i could tell that it would've been a great dish if i had subbed in a traditional sauce. the spinach was vibrant green - fresh, not frozen. my family got mole, a fish dish and a camarones dish -- all huge portions, well plated, quickly served and well-received by each diner. even my son enjoyed his chicken taco!

We have been going to Mi Mexico for years, mostly with the lunch crowd. Food is fresh and very good and typically offers good service. However, the last two times the manager or owner, not sure which he is, has refused to refill the chip basket due to the fact that there were 2 or 3 chips left in the bottom and this past weekend refused to give us the mild salsa (this was dinner) - brought us 2 bowls of hot. Bad customer service lately.

The food here was good, but the service was horrendous. We came with a group that was in town for business and we needed separate checks. Our waiter refused to do this, but then changed his mind and did. However, the waiter made a point of telling us he would not split checks again if we returned. It took us an hour and a half for lunch, at least 30 minutes to take our order. Due to the service, I can not recommend this restaurant.

Ordered the chimichanga and it was a bit dry tasting but not that bad. The chips and their spicy salsa is worth coming back for.

Saturday night. 40 minutes after we ordered we did not have our food. The waiter never came to our table to advise of any issues. Needless to say we asked for the drink check and it still took another 5 minutes to get an answer from the hostess. We never saw the waiter. WE WALKED OUT.

Food was within the standard deviation of Mexican Food. Nothing stood out to me, but nothing bad either. Guac was too smooth for my liking. Live music was a nice touch. We came here on a Saturday evening. Service is EXTREMELY slow when it gets busy. Seriously. Snails pace. It's annoying.

Sunday night we took an out of town friend to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants . The food there is consistently good and normally do is the atmosphere . However, this night was horrible. They sat us Ina back room where a birthday party was going on. It was extremely noisy to say the least. This was an adults birthday. Two banquet tables, 1 for adults and 1 for kids. The children were screaming and running around while their parents just sat there. We complained to our waiter ... He did nothing . We complained to management ....she did nothing . All I got was I'm sorry! Well Adios Mi Mexico we won't be back'

Mother's Day 2015, an absolute nightmare. Over forty minutes to have our order taken. People who ordered after us were served before us. Orders came wrong plus we had two small kids with us. We spent almost three hours in the restaurant PLUS waiter had an attitude! I'll never go back!!

It's an alright place to eat. The portions are huge, so you get what you pay for. But it's kind of disappointing that they don't have Aguas frescas. (Horchata, Jamaica, tamarindo) and they don't have any green sauce, And they don't have queso fresco, and they don't have jalapeños. Those are the kind of things that I expect a Mexican restaurant to have. Not coming back due to their lack of authenticity.

Very good basic Mexican food. Nothing innovative but well prepared, tasty dishes. Festive atmosphere most nights with music often on the weekends. Love their Carne Asada and Camerones Mexicano. Cadillac Margaritas are also great. Prices are quite reasonable, portions are generous, and lunch menu is even more affordable.

Having been here many times, I find the food very good and consistent. They have several items that are different from any other Mexican restaurant, which is nice to find. The atmosphere and the service is wonderful. The chairs are a bit uncomfortable and can use a little recaning. I have to tell you when we were there last, there was a power outage in the neighborhood that occurred while we were already seated and eating. The staff worked well with the problem and we still had very good service and food. Just at the end of our dinner, a terrible alarm started going off and they could not shut it off. We could not wait to leave, but that was not their fault. We really do enjoy the food and service there, and will continue to go back again and again.

Everyone at work loves this restaurant. I honestly thought it was a decent establishment. I must admit their Carne Asada is pretty good! I just find it weird that they don't serve carne asada tacos?! Anyway I'm very generous giving 3 stars at all... Customer service was HORRIBLE. We ordered specific types of tortillas - and it was all switched around. So they bring us extra tortillas........after asking nicely for the correct tortillas AND THEY CHARGE US EXTRA FOR IT! ummm... we shouldn't be charged for this...... AND THEY HAD THE AUDACITY TO SAY IT WAS OUR FAULT BECAUSE WE CHANGED THE ORDERS AROUND LISTEN BUDDY IF YOU CANT GET OUR ORDER STRAIGHT APOLOGIZE AND CONTINUE ON - DON'T SAY THE CUSTOMER IS WRONG THE CUSTOMER IS ALWAYS RIGHT NOT coming back

Was recommended this place back in June while wanting a fun night out with my then fiance (now wife). Loved this place from the start. Chairs are cheery, salsa is spicy, mole is amazing, portions are generous, price is right, guacamole is fresh, margaritas are strong. We booked the place for our rehearsal dinner for our wedding right then and there. We return here about once or twice a month and have yet to be disappointed.

I came here for my birthday dinner, the place was packed which I was surprised because I've never seen it super busy here... The food was Great but our waitress was horrible !! She was super rude and walked away from us while taking our order and didn't even let us finish. Then to top it off she wouldn't separate our checks and gave us an attitude the whole time. Would recommend the place for their food just hopefully your waiter isn't like the one we had!

We thought we would dodge a bullet on mothers day, ha! Not a chance, this place was packed too but we did get there early enough to beat the dinner rush wait. This place is a solid mexican restaurant which is hard to find in the north shore from my experience. Portions were generous, splittable if you are like my wife and I. House margarita was ok, I have had better. Maybe it's because it was mothers day but they were cranking out a lot of pretty frozen drinks this night. Service was ok for them being as busy as they were. Menu is massive. As for atmosphere, you are packed in with the rest, so not much privacy to be had, in fact we were treated to all the pains and ills lived from the table next to ours, ugh. Mexican/spanish people actually work and eat here so that is a good sign in my opinion. Do I like it better than Lalo's, Las Palmas, Zapatista and El Jardin (The Glenn)? Yes I do, although I will maintain that Lalos has a really good margarita. A favor to ask - If you know of a great mexican place in the north shore that I have somehow missed it, please do inform me - thx

We generally enjoy the food here. The service is sketchy. Last two times we have been escorted to the "back room" for seating. Why oh why do u seat two people back there with large parties and screaming bratty kids. I went back to the manager & asked to be seated elsewhere because of the noise. She was not happy and gave us a table in a traffic pattern. Losing interest in this place and no longer recommend it to people. If u still want to dine there make sure there are at least 4 in ur party and a few screaming kids will assure u a good seat in the main dining room. They like to spread the joy around!

Mi Mexico is, well, amazing cultural Mexican food. True Mexican food. Not the kind of stuff that's Americanized and/or Taco Bell equivalent, this is the stuff people eat in Mexico. The difference is extremely noticeable in the style, the options of dishes, and the seasoning. End result? Delicious, cheap, and plentiful. I have not been this satisfied with mexican food in a long time. I do love a burrito here or an enchilada there, but Mi Mexico is unique enough that the only way to do it justice is to actually go in and order some food. Suggestion: Get the $8.95 lunch specials.

Went here for the first time on a Saturday evening and was pleasantly surprised. The place was fairly full and I opted to sit at the bar. Things started a little slowly, but I received some chips and salsa and ordered a frozen golden margarita, which came out great. I asked the bartender what he suggested and his first suggestion was the Burrito Mi Mexico with a blend of steak and chorizo in it. Sounded good, but I was hoping to try a dinner specialty and I think he sensed that, so his second suggestion was Chile Colorado, a beef dish simmered in sauce, veggies and spices - I selected that as it sounded like a better way to sample the places unique offerings. I also ordered a half bowl of Sopa de Albondigas to see what they did with that. Both items were pretty good. The soup came with two meatballs and ample broth and vegetables. The Chile was subtly spicy - which I enjoyed - a decent sized entree. Overall, I left pretty satisfied and full. I'll be back - it's a family owned place and I like to frequent such establishments when they have good things to offer!

Not sure why people would choose to go here when there are plenty of really good restaurants in the area. Not worth $14 (with tax and tip) for a generic taco, beans, enchilada, and rice. The service was really slow; I am not sure if it was due to it being a Friday or if it's just the norm? One pro is that the spicy salsa is actually spicy, which I don't see too often. However, it's more like a tomato sauce with onions and jalapenos versus a true salsa. The ambiance is old school Mexico, which is cool. But overall, this place is very mediocre and I would not go back.

The outdoor seating was also nice, but had a real bug problem (gnats). boo gnats.

Soon!

  • Faith E.

  • Karen G.

I still like the Arroz con Pollo, but the service has gone down in the last two visits. Very slow for times that the restaurant did not seem packed. I'd still recommend mixing the two salsas they provide at the table. The mild is a little on the sweet side and the hot, is just plain hot.

I'm hooked.

Unreal

I hate this place and the employees.

vibrant dining area and overwhelming menu... tons tons tons of items to choose from on the menu - your traditional favorites (tacos), your regional fare (mole) and then EVERYthing else. having said that, i think i was too overwhelmed and ended up ordering a stand-by - spinach enchiladas without carefully reading the description. instead of red/green sauce, they were topped with a very rich and heavy cream sauce that i could not stomach. i scraped off what i could and ate the refried beans and chips instead. from the few bites i was able to save from the drowning cream sauce, i could tell that it would've been a great dish if i had subbed in a traditional sauce. the spinach was vibrant green - fresh, not frozen. my family got mole, a fish dish and a camarones dish -- all huge portions, well plated, quickly served and well-received by each diner. even my son enjoyed his chicken taco!

  • Sharon L.

Great Mexican food. This has become a regular stop for our office lunch time crew. Always busy but that is a good sign. Lunch specials offer many choices. I have taken a liking to their pork tamales.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
